Peter Lik – A Window To Nature

Recently in Vegas, we stumbled into a gallery at Caesar’s Palace.  It was absolutely amazing and those words – do not do justice for these works of Art.

Peter Lik is an brilliant photographer.  We were in awe just walking through the gallery.  He travels all over the world and takes shots that you’ve never seen before and never ceases to out-do himself on the next shot. You cannot appreciate the beauty of these pieces until you are stood in front of a high gloss, framed, eight foot canvas set against a dark background with super lighting.

Sadly, we were unable to get an exclusive interview with Peter, but we were so excited to spread his beauty around, we just wanted to give him a shout out.  Peter has galleries all over – Aspen, Key West, Hawaii, New York, Rocky Mountains, Las Vegas and then some.

If you go to Peter’s web site, you will find a complete list of galleries.  Do yourself a favor and check out his galleries – I guarantee you that you will walk away a better person!  :)

And Peter, Web Tips Magazine is a huge fan and if you listening – congratulations on the Master of Photography award for your excellence in photography! You can see more of Peter’s work on his website, I highly recommend clicking the link, you will be amazed and inspired I’m sure of it!

this Lik guy copies everyone else! doesn’t he do anything original?

    Windows to the World?!!!!

If I was John Scanlan I’d be pissed!

@jack johnson – I don’t see many similarities in the two authors works at all – in fact looking at John Scanlans work his landscapes are shot completely differently – I think you may of taken the post title (created by the site here and not an official title) as a copy of Johns official title for his fine art book of traveling around the world.

I believe that the work presented above in the article shows the big differences in the 2 artists – maybe John’s work will also be featured here too at some point.

Thanks for posting! I am a big fan of Lik’s work. I agree with you Jack, Peter is an original artist with his own point of view. Check out Peter’s blog if you’re interested in seeing his latest pieces, etc.

the point is this…..peter, or this posting, is using another photographers copyrighted and registered trademark name (without permission!) where i come from that is illegal. and i think both this site and lik could be held accountable if you guys aren’t smart or courteous about removing that information. i don’t know, but if i were scanlan, i’d be all over this.

I believe Jack, that the words window and World cannot be copyrighted as they are simply regular words that anyone can write, print or say. Here they are written as a byline to this post we created – at the time we were not aware of every single photographers published book title – however I stand by my title I created and posted on my own website, and I feel that looking at images such as those created by Peter Lik (and many other photographers and artists we have presented) do offer a window to the World, showcasing visions and locations that most people dream of.

Surely this is the essence of landscape photography, a unique perspective on a scene that the artist has created and for the rest of us to enjoy. I also believe I have heard this “phrase” said throughout my life – A window to the World – what you have done is taken everything completely out of context and for some reason taken sides when really the meaning of the post is – as all of our posts are – to educate, inspire and bring to attention some great artists, from across the World.

Just to confirm – these are NOT the words of Peter Lik, these are my words – my description.

I’m sorry you got so upset over 4 words in a title I wrote, but not sure what you are expecting me to do really – I won’t change it as they are my words and I feel that they describe what I am seeing when I look at images such as these.

It shouldn’t matter what the title is, it should only matter what the content of the artwork means to an individuals soul. He has a piece of artwork called “Sea Shell Sunrise”. I have a poem called “The Purple Sea Shell”, I don’t see it as copying, but more like having the same meaning. Therefore, copying titles shouldn’t matter. For me personally, he isn’t just “Windows to the World”, but “Windows to the Soul”.

This was just brought to my attention recently from a customer of mine and he was just as upset as I was. “Windows to the World” is a registered trademark of MY work and should not be used in conjunction with any other photographer. I have spent a lot of money paying for this right and advertising as such. For the Admin to say that they don’t thinik you can copywrite windows or world they may be right but when used in the context of describing another photographers or Artists work that becomes a big problem. Do you think your magazine wouldn’t have words from Microsoft if they described the new Mac operating system as being a “window to the future”. This is just careless journalism. I will be waiting to see how the people of WebTipsMagazine will respond.

Thanks for contacting us and joining in with our discussions. I’m very sorry that you feel the way you do – as previously noted to the customer of yours – we were not aware of you, your book or indeed your trademark. We used the “saying” or “phrase” to describe what we see from the photographers work in question – not a slight on your book which we didn’t even know existed. As we are a small blog and not a commercial outfit it’s rather ridiculous for anyone to think we should research a phrase to see if someone gained a trademark for a title – that just doesn’t happen anywhere. I’ve changed the title so you can continue to protect your trademarked title of your book.

What a creative new title “A window to Nature”. Now everybody should be happy with this title because it isn’t copied from somebody else and hopefully it can change people’s opinions about Peter Lik. Therefore, Peter Lik doesn’t need that old title back because he’s an experienced and talented creator that doesn’t have the time to copy people’s titles or content. By the way I have written a poem for him to thank him for giving me inspiration from his genius artwork about mother nature. (I hope the title of this poem hasn’t copied anybody’s yet)
    The Revealing of Snow
    From studying arts to science
From traveling to different countries to settling down in U.S.A
From knowing to discovering the unknown
    I walked too many roads
    Wondering which way to go
    While looking for myself
    Wondering who I was
    Until I met you
    You awake my soul
Give me the direction of life
Many things we face, we may not understand
But we must solve our obstacles bravely
One day the truth will find us
    We will find the truth
Like when the snow melts away
    From the fresh green grass

  10. Just wanted to give you a shout from the valley of the sun, great information. Much appreciated.
